Lake Guntersville Bass Fishing for Beginners

June 23, 2026 ยท Captain Shane Ellis

Beginner-friendly guided bass fishing on Lake Guntersville with Captain Shane Ellis

If you have never really bass fished before, Lake Guntersville is one of the best places in the country to start. It is a big, healthy fishery with a strong bass population, and on a guided trip you do not need to know a thing before you step on the boat.

The most common worry we hear is, will I slow everyone down? You will not. Beginner trips are some of the most fun days on the water. Shane sets up the rods, shows you how to cast and work the bait, and keeps the day relaxed so you actually catch fish instead of fighting your gear.

You also do not need to buy anything. The boat, rods, reels, and tackle are all provided. The only thing you bring is your Alabama fishing license, plus sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, and something to drink. Show up ready to learn and have a good time.

Bringing kids or a spouse who is new to it? That is a great fit too. Shane keeps it patient and hands-on, and there is nothing like watching someone land their first real bass.

Not sure whether to start with a 4-hour or a 6-hour trip? For a first time out, 4 hours is plenty, and you can always go longer next time. Call or text Shane at (256) 744-5185 and he will help you pick the right day.
