Lake Guntersville Grass Fishing Guide

Grass-line bass fishing on Lake Guntersville with Captain Shane Ellis

Lake Guntersville is grass country. The milfoil and hydrilla that fill big stretches of the lake are a huge part of why it grows so many quality bass, and learning to fish that grass is what separates a slow day from a great one.

Grass holds bait, gives bass shade and ambush cover, and changes through the year. Early and late, fish push up shallow to feed along the edges. As the sun climbs, they slide into thicker mats and grass lines. Knowing which edge, which depth, and which lane the fish are using is the whole game.

On a guided trip, Shane shows you how to read the grass and match the right approach to it, whether that is working the outside edges, fishing the points and holes, or getting a bait down into the heavier stuff.

It is also water that rewards local knowledge. Grass moves, thins, and thickens with the season and the year, so spots that fired last summer may not be the play today. That is exactly the kind of thing a guide who fishes it constantly already knows.
